Our First POW (Performer of the Week): Dave Rodgers Band
Dave Rodgers was a founding member of the original “Sierra Band” back in 1993 with original founding Member Eddie Riech. They started performing as an acoustic duo performing in the Stuart, Jupiter and Palm Beach Florida areas. After 2 years they quickly expanded to a 4 piece acoustic group featuring guitarist Richie Bobsien and bassist Glenn Potts. In 1996 they recorded their first album at the world-famous Criteria Studios in Miami. 10 years later Dave left the band to pursue his career in business, but in 2017 Dave started playing again in the Greater Orlando, Tampa and St Pete areas and has re-introduced his classic style vocally and instrumentally, playing covers and originals and featuring songs by well-known Nashville songwriter Joey Scutella.
Dave performs vocals and plays guitar and describes his music as Americana/Folk. He had his first gig at age 17 at a Ramada Inn outside Erie, Pennsylvania on Interstate 90. Memorable experiences include playing with the late, great Clarence Clemons in Juno Beach in 1996, various recording sessions at Criteria Studios, opening up for Nestor Torres, and playing with Dave Lubeck from Molly Hatchet. He currently performs at The Alley in Sanford, City Limits in Deland, Hurricanes in Longwood, Bloodhound Brew Pub in Orlando, Wing Shack in Orlando, Shovelhead Lounge in Longwood, The Cage in St. Pete, Luke’s Sport Shack in Largo, and Fiddler’s Green in Winter Park. You can find out more about Dave at ReverbNation.
I have particularly been impressed by how welcoming and gracious Dave is to other musicians. He often has visiting musicians perform on stage with him, and he’s quick to offer them the spotlight. The first night I met Dave, he took the time to give “starting out” advice to a young musician, and let her know who she could see in Nashville that would help get her career going. When he found out that I was a new drum and cajon player he greatly encouraged me and I was subsequently able to accompany Dave and Maestro Carl (who plays keyboards and violin) on stage at Pickles in Longwood. The whole purpose of this blog is to support musicians, and Dave Rodgers is the perfect example of what that means!
